Hub New Music is a group of passionate educators, and offers a variety of educational programs for higher ed. Below is a list of Hub’s educational residency programs.
CHAMBER MUSIC COACHINGS AND MASTERCLASSES
Hub offers ensemble coachings and studio masterclasses on both contemporary and standard repertoire. Members of the ensemble are also available for private lessons with students.
COMPOSITION WORKSHOPs
Hub New Music frequently workshops student pieces in a masterclass setting, offering feedback on topics such as orchestration for mixed quartet, use of extended techniques, and effective notation. Workshops are regularly recorded, and Hub is also available for public performances of student compositions.
COMMISSIONING SEMINAR
In this seminar tailored for student composers, Hub leads a discussion on its commissioning process. In the talk, the group discusses developing a concept and promotional materials for a commission, fundraising for new work, and creating a commissioning agreement.
THE 21ST CENTURY MUSICIAN
Since Hub’s beginnings as a school project, members of the group have shared responsibilities as performing artist and administrators. Hub’s talk, The 21st Century Musician, gives students a look at starting and running an artist-led organization by explores topics such programming, booking performances, marketing, fundraising, and educational outreach.
SIDE BY SIDE PERFORMANCE
Hub New Music is available to perform side-by-side with student ensembles. Past side-by-side performances have included concerto performances of Gala Flagello’s The Bird-While with wind ensembles, Julius Eastman’s Joy Boy (scored for open instrumentation), and works by students written specifically for residencies.
